Rome: The Colosseum and Descent of Man

So, we decide to eat at a small family run place about 5 blocks from the Colosseum one of our early nights here in Rome.  The meal ends up being mediocre but the bonus is we get to walk by the Colosseum at night.  One of the great things about Rome is that you pass by all sorts of ruins and amazing buildings at random as you are going hither and yon.  (And yes, we have visited the Colosseum on previous trips to Rome which is why we were satisfied with the glorious view.)   Here are some shots I took on our way to a restaurant.

On the way back to the metro stop we passed a group of people and a young woman was clearing up a friend's misconceptions about the Descent of Man - correctly explaining the there was a common ancestor for the two lines that diverged - one evolving into our present day apes and monkeys and another evolving into the many hominids that eventually led to us.  I went back to her and said "I just want to congratulate you on explaining that so clearly and correctly!" and gave her a round of applause.  Let's raise a glass to Rome, Charles Darwin and to the intersecting of interests.
